In 2015, after three years of offering nutrition coaching, I ended the service entirely.
First, while I enjoyed helping others with nutrition, my primary passion was strength training and I wanted to take time to sharpen my skills helping people move better, gain muscle, and build strength.
Second, I had faith kettlebell training alone could help people lose bodyfat. (Not exactly.)
Third, as a solo entrepreneuer, creating time for a full-fledged nutrition service was not always easy.
Thankfully, a game-changing technology and system has emerged that has made that process far more time efficient for me.
That was one important fix. But what else is different now?
Well, I learned five powerful lessons that caused me to rethink those first two perspectives.
#1: Exercising Twice-A-Week Yields Little Fat Loss (If You Eat Poorly and Live Sedentary)
OK, here’s the good news: kettlebell training, even on twice a week, has an immensely positive impact on your body, delivering improved muscle mass, strength, mobility, lowered blood pressure, etc.
Now, the bad news: Its effect on bodyfat loss at twice per week was modest, and in some cases non-existent.
Because when it comes to fat loss, even the best exercise program in the world, when done only twice per week, cannot overtake:
1) an otherwise sedentary lifestyle, and
2) frequent, crappy food choices
Yes, many of my clients lost some bodyfat training twice a week, but rarely more than five pounds.
This was FAR less than either of us had hoped.
Which made me painfully aware that…
#2: Most People Crave Significant Fat Loss
Even with all the added strength, muscle, and energy they achieved through our programs, my clients were still anxious to trim their waistlines and fit into smaller clothes.
Losing five pounds of bodyfat was not enough.
Who could blame them? I would share that feeling, too.
So I conceded that, given their lifestyle choices, strength training twice per week would not be enough to make them happy with their body.
Plus, they were missing out on something else….
#3: Clients Could Not See the Muscle They Acquired
A major reason I love kettlebell training is that it builds AMAZING muscle.
Muscle provides a firm, tight shape to your body. It is what makes you feel great about your appearance and confident to wear clothes that spotlight your arms, legs, stomach, or butt.
But it’s next to impossible to see those gains if your body is carrying too much bodyfat, which meant many of my clients were not able to revel in their improved muscle tone.
This was extremely disappointing for me.
I desperately wanted my clients to be excited about the hard-earned muscle they acquired, but it wasn’t possible unless they dropped more bodyfat.
That meant getting help on nutrition, which led to the next problem…
#4: My Clients Will Not Seek Nutrition Help If I Don’t Provide It.
Sure, I could fold my arms and say “Hey, I help people become stronger and build muscle. If you want to lose fifteen pounds, hire a nutrition coach.”
And, for the past two years, that’s what I did (though I said it much more diplomatically.)
I pointed people to the same nutrition resources that helped me, but they never followed through.
The reality was my clients were not going to tackle nutrition in any meaningful way unless I provided them with that help.
Which caused me to redefine my business and how I want to help people…
#5: My Mission Is To Help People Feel Good About Their Body
Yes, my primary passion will always be strength training.
I LOVE seeing people become a confident, strong, physically capable human beings who can do SO much more than they ever thought possible.
But that is no longer enough for me.
As a fitness coach, I now believe it is essential I provide meaningful help with fat loss goals, along with other areas of health that could be improved through eating better.
I can’t stand by and do nothing if:
1) Your health is suffering due to poor eating.
2) You are unhappy with your appearance and have made little or no progress in this area.
3) You cannot move as well as you should because you are carrying too much weight.
I consider it my mission to help you with all three of these areas of your life.
Which is why, beginning June 12th, 2017, I will offer nutrition coaching in a DYNAMIC NEW WAY.
Sign up in the box below to be notified when this launches, as I will be offering the first seven clients a special rate.
NOTE: You do not have to be in Chicago, or fitness client of mine to get this coaching. This is for ANYONE.
